Memories
mary edwards
As I standd beneath the tree of memories
the breeze stirs the leaves to place a kiss on my uplifted face.
I reach to catch it in my hands but it shies away, to make a memory of our last goodbye.
It builds a prison of declarations and promises
turning them into bands stronger than iron
to hold me captive in a cell of can't forget.
I walk out in the evening and another breeze leaves a kiss upon my brow,
did it bring it from a loved one? or did it pass two friends in parting and dry the tears on one sad face
giving one of them permission to go on and win lifes offer?
I feel again the hurting sorrow deep within my heart,
but wait, what about tomorrow?
will hope destroy life's heartbreaking laughter
and tear it from tomorrow's breeze
to bring it back to me in other arms?
I ponder, and hurry back to dream of yesterday.
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
