Are we a culture of emptiness? Always wanting more?

Forever Wanting

Straight into the western sun we rode

Chasing whatever cannot be found

Gold deep in the mountains

Oil beneath the open plains

Unreachable riches burning holes in our soul

After the sunset and on the advent of dawn

We turned it around, again riding to the sun

In the east it was Wall Street

Stingy fingers reaching for wealth

And bank of all bank safes empty and wanting

Riding again

And again

To the west

To the north

To the east

To the south

Saddlebags flapping empty

Wanting

        Wanting

                Wanting

                        Wanting

                                Forever wanting

Let's face it, our whole existence, including the definition of our economy, is materialistic. Few people want to live a simple life of a monk or nun. It's all about who gathers the most stuff. And most people seem not to be able to stop, like your poem states--forever wanting.

We are in for trouble if we don't get our priorities straight.

Everyone reaching for wealth ending up with empty saddlebags and empty vaults. What a sad state of affairs but so true!

Love ya!

And Getting! Honest seekers shall always find their treasure along the trail somewhere...even a rattlesnake hide to cover the optimist's half-full wallet...I love wealth, but my fingers aren't stingy...I share the pot of gold with lady outlaws and lawyers who protect me from the grifters...and there have been many grabbers...Tombstone was named rightfully so...

A sad yet true commentary on the state of our world. Love and peace to you, Dayvid.
