 Climb

Standing silent in liquid revere

Tired feet soldiers on

Broken nerves that feel a new

No stitch in time can bridge this tear

Deep breaths hold it all together

Steal hearts crash against bruised ribs

Shattered souls glued piece by piece

To brave any weather without fear

The brain fights a losing battle

Mind over matter they always say

But fortune cookies don’t guide anymore

And these brittle bones don’t obey

Control is a scintillating illusion

None have managed to resist its charms

And hope the torturer from hell

Leaves you disengaged and unarmed

Haunted pasts with uncertain futures

Counted breaths and limited beats

Seconds close in as time conquers

Has death ever tasted defeat?

Most sought after is peace of mind

But it eludes the eyes of its seeker

Corked up feelings deal a lethal blow

The mind won’t rest till emotions flow

Letting go is the ultimate solution

But only a few can swallow that pill

The exhausted minds with extinguished spirits,

are the only hikers on that lone hill

Fate isn’t tattooed on our backs

And expiry dates don’t get extensions

All on this journey must make it to the end

But only those who make the climb, gain contention

Some have it easy, and some have a hard. But we all die. Your poem seems to cover something that has been very hard to swallow. I know a lot of times when I just want to turn off the torture, too. But not yet, most of the time, things are cool.

A very thought-provoking entry.

A very heartfelt poem. Emotions well-expressed!
