We are disillusioned in our youth.
Maybe more-so in his case.
With thoughts that if we just saw eachother...
Even for a fleeting moment,
Everything would change.
We'd love eachother and live in that wonderous ever-after.
It's only after you grow up and learn the truth.
Then the fantasies start to fade...
No more Knights.
No more Prince Charming.
And I am no longer, the Sweet Princess.
I'll always wonder what nymph lured him to hang by the gallows of suicide.
What final emotional dagger did him in?
By his own hands.
My Prince rides the clouds now.
Sleeps in Heaven's Castle.
Where God is King.
Mariah, this is a beautiful and sad poem. Definitely a pleasure to read. Your punctuation is perfect which makes it very easy and enjoyable for the reader. I find being able to make the right pauses, as the writer does, helps us to understand the poem and draw the full effect of the writers words. I hope I'm making sense. I love to see young people with such an awesome talent.
