you tell me there’s a yin
or a yang
that controls each of us
in moon based chinese stargazing.
you say I’m the tiger
breathing fire,
warrior against injustice,
generous friend--
except when crossed
or trapped--
a man of many charms,
ardent lover…
undeniable affinity for the rat.

you say that you
are the astrologic rat,
restless, clairvoyant, challenging,
one who pursues
the thrill of living dangerously,
superior to others
yet incorruptible in loyalty,
passionate…
wit as bright as a light blue
metallic edge.

you tell me
a green flame burns
within the tiger,
where yin the yoni travels
the S curve
dividing light and dark halves
of the mandala:
the universe,
cyclic phases of the moon,

the feminine side the yin,
the yang, you say,
is me.

I love these lines, in particular, Gene. The feel of this whole poem resonates deeply; I love it.

Balance....

even in love we look for those qualities that mark the internal characteristics...and yet it is the yin and the yang, the balance one must find to encounter his or her defined love...

nicely written Gene...

Gene -From a guy who doesn't know a damned thing about astrology, this is a very well done love poem, and that's what we're all about! Give us more, O Master. - Bill

Chinese philosophy, Hindu philosophy -- I always felt these were vane attempts to establish psychological boundaries within the psyche of very superstitious peoples as a means of control -- you have blended these together cleverly in your poem Gene -- another excellent thinking jogger for our imaginations to contemplate -- my thanks -- I truly like this kind of work -- share another with us -- peace and love to you my friend -- JMW

By quoting her, "You say..." you're not necessarily buying into yin and yang, or whatever else she says. I enjoyed this poem for its universal theme of the universe, and because it's just a d--- good poem! Happy Thanksgiving weekend, Gene. --Kathy

You are a fantastic writer, so obviously, the writing quality is as good as ever- but i loved the content, being into astrology, too, Chinese and Western, and you crafted this with such knowledge and meaning.

The yin yang Chinese philosophy is fascinating. I'm teaching English in China and it's a privilege to be here and learn about things like kong zhu, Chinese Yo-Yo.

Excellent. A poem to the complexity of the individual. Yes, I say that yin and yang exist (one part somtimes in hiding) within each of us. Both have had their day with me.
