late in the winter’s day,

a broken man emerges from the shadows,

limps around the icy corner

and walks into the man

he might have been

had he not abandoned the boy he was.

Good one, Gene. Who doesn't wonder about what might have been?

It is n-e-v-e-r too late to be the boy you wished to be--except physically.

It is essential to be true to one's self above all else. "I Did It My Way", the Paul Anka song Sinatra made popular alludes to many of the same personal reference points. There is the poignant bite of the collision between aging and personal reflection here that is very philosophical Gene. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

Poignantly powerful in meaning expressed, Gene; much to think about here. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

I love how you've set this "late in the winter's day." I feel like my late summer days are over and my feet are squarely planted in autumn. Everything about this is right. It breathes with the cool winds of choice and effect while holding that velvety sheen of reflection. I really love this.

life is indeed about choices and its directions we pursue ... oh, if we could only do it over ... but then again, we are never too old to change ...

It's a shame what happens when we give up on our dreams. A deep and meaningful write, Gene. ~Elizabeth

Pith and genuine substance here, Gene,
more than mere summary, it speaks in a deep voice.

i encountered this very situation a few months ago sitting in the thai consulate in LA. funny that you wrote this. i was waiting in line there and recognized this person who is an electronic music producer who tours the world as a DJ and performer. i've been following his work since 1998, bought many of his CDs and alas, there he was in front of me. i started talking to him, let him know i was a big fan and told him i wished i had done the things that he is doing now. he looked at me square in the eye and said: you still can! words of wisdom, follow your passion, let the chips fall where they may. spent so much time trying to be the "fake regular guy", you know what i mean? business degree, 9-5 job, automaton cog in a great corporate wheel. got me nowhere. thanks for posting this, it means a lot to me actually. i'm keeping it around forever.

You have sketched this in such a clever way!
I can certainly identify to this circle kind of awakening!

This reflects into the mirror of chance and could-of-been, and the mirror stares back at many of us. Very well put, my friend.
