Mom

Where did the time go, where are the days

Tending my source, in declining phase

Where once she was straight, healthy and strong

Jitterbug dancer, who sang her own  song

Loved by so many, wronged by her men

Gave them the boot, then pursued again

Loved our true   Lord, councelled the lost

Gave of herself, her gift at no cost

Now she is sick, never the same

Tremers and shakes, partially lame

Her diet  ruled by sugar and salt

Everything counted, her steps and her walk

I know this is life, it's what we  are dealt

Riches aside, health is true wealth

Time is so precious, we learn this so late

Now my mother's keeper, full circle of fate

Pax

This is awesome, Anita, and conveys so much emotion and personhood in such tight form and concise lines. Your final stanza says it all. We run the whole circle of life and philosophy with you and feel with you both your joy and your pain. Hold fast to the dear people that you are, endorsing all that you have been and are to each other every single day. These can be trying times but are also oh so precious. Beautifully rendered. Bless you both. xx

So true, my Mom has been dealing with sugar and salt for over 30 years. All that good food I left at 18 has taken its toll.

Thanks for sharing.

I salute your heart, A PAX! I believe the Maker molds time too, and most of us learn just a tad bit too late! ...it's the ones who acknowledge as such, are the ones who shall tend His flocks!

A PAX,

This is a very touching poem that I'm sure many of can relate to. When I think of my mother as a young woman and the long sickness preceding her death, well, words don't do any feelings justice. Take care.

How I can relate as my mother was big and strong, no one crossed her path, but in the end small and frail...

Be always safe,

There is an old saying somewhere that "youth is wasted on the young" and I think it is so true, when we are young and healthy with lots of energy we seldom appreciate how well off we are...it is only as age robs us of so much that we become thankful for what we had...\fee

Tender, loving, sensitive, compassionate, this poem is everything it should be, Pax.
Yes, this is life but we can't help thinking it could be other ways.
This will stay with me a long time.

John
