Ron is incorrect on newborns and yes, ugly can be passed on, only if your genes carry it.
All newborn babies are ugly. And, strangely enough, I've seen both ugly and beautiful in the same family. I recall an identical twin like me who said that her sister, “got it all,” because she had to do all kinds of things to make herself over… her teeth, her body shape, her hair, her skin… and still would not look like her beautiful sister.
But I'm glad that beauty is in the eye of beholder so that even ugly can be embraced.
