If I Had Your Number

There's an old adage, "A man chases a woman until she LETS him catch her!"

So, after chasing this scrumptious morsel, for about a month, with no response via email, finally, upon returning home late one evening, she had left me an outstanding, most excellent message on my answering machine.

Her voice was as beautiful as a Celestial Angel, and she acknowledged having just discovered all of my prior messages. She said she was just "FLOORED!" In fact, at least three times she used the word.

She praised my writing as having a PLETHORA of talent, and was totally FLOORED again by the poem I had written for her!

WOW! Was I ecstatic! This gorgeous young THANG was impressed - AND - INTERESTED! HOT DOG!

Now, bear in mind that although she did, in fact, give me her real email addy, even spelling out the letters distinctly, so there was no error possible - she did NOT leave her phone number.

To the rest of the world this would be no "Biggy" but I don't have Caller ID - so Alas and Alack, I could not return her call!

This fact promulgated the following hastily written poem. However, here I sit - an entire MONTH later, still without her number! Obviously, her fervor fizzled out, or she took a closer look at my mug shots?

C'est La Vie! Tom.

If I Had Your Number

Copyright: 9/15/06 Tom Hyland

If I had your number,
I’d boldly give you a call,
I’d let my fingers do the walkin’
And soon we’d be a-talkin’
‘bout anything - off-the-wall.

If I had your number,
I wouldn’t hesitate,
I’d call you, quick as
A Bunny, Honey,
And ask you for a date!

If I had your number,
I’d ring you, quick as a wink,
I’d invite you out for dinner or a drink.
T’would be sublime, just name the time,
Or, I’ll pick you up at eight!

If I had your number,
I’d certainly not slumber,
Meet you at Valentino’s - forsooth?
I’ll be the lucky smilin’ guy,
Sittin’ in the booth!

If I had your number,
Ma’am, I’d be elated,
We’d sit and chat,
That’s where it’s at,
Gittin’ Syncopated!

Well okay that is all you had to say(laugh) This is so cute and it feels so good to know that as writers we can all have a sense of humor and not be so serious all the time. Kudos to you always with peace and blessings.

Not sure which I liked better...the intro or the poem...both are refreshingly clever...and I keep hearing the "haunting" melody: "Baby,ba-e-by, baby,,,You can have my pri- i -vate num - bah...ooooh!" LOL
Smiles,
Taylor~

Is the girl crazy? She missed out on one heck of a call. It is obvious you are full of fun with a good dose of mischief thrown in. If she doesn't appreciate you, you're sure to find another one who will.
