a childhood hero

Poem Artwork

Chief  Natache

When I was a small child

I would sit on the lawn

And watch for him

To Drive by

In his wagon

Pulled by

The biggest horses

Or atleast

It seemed that way to me.

I was told

By my Mom

That he was an old Indian

Who lived in a house in the woods

And his name was Gruber.

I think I liked

To watch for him

Because I liked his horses.

Every year on the 4th of July

There would be a big

Celebration

On the local

Parade grounds

Band concerts, talent shows,

pony  and fire truck  rides,

bingo, games of chance, and

my favorite, the turtle races.

Old Gruber was transformed

To  the most handsome man,

In his leather beaded clothes

And a headdress of feathers that

Crowned his head and trailed

Down his back to the ground

And he was called by his real

Name…Chief Natache

And each year when he

Passed me my lollipop

From his leather bag

I was proud to know him.

Let the fireworks begin…

She Intrigues Me, Revelations Of Love by Jon Willey

If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
