Illusions

Illusions wash across the shores
Of make believe, of mine and yours
Of sharing time when none could be
Of feeling love, of you and me.

Illusions wash until some day
When death will sweep them all away,
And angels laugh before they cry
For our illusion, you and I.

We always wondered what we were
How could such love as ours occur?
But sure as death we dream because
Illusion’s all this ever was.

I learned it somehow, halfway through-
That there was no such thing as you,
But just a dream that caught my heart
And played illusions from the start.

I guess I should be thankful though
For happiness that none can know
That I was blessed enough to feel
Before I learned it wasn’t real.

John H. Bidwell

I can feel your disappointment in this, and it moves well, no hitches.

Oh John so bittersweet, so familiar, and still a part of me can't relate because illusions can also become dreams or am I just being to hopeful. This is very good John, am most glad to have the opportunity to read you again!

Sadly, I don't always comment on the poetry I read, unless it's exceptional --- and this one, my friend, meets that criteria. Outstanding poetry, beautifully sad.

whamo, John. you sent me soaring back to a place I don't wanna be no more. sorry for the pain from which this comes. we learn from everything and, chances are, there's a little dose of reality in the dream and a little dream in the real thing. Dawn
