The chance was ours, the stage was set-
The music was so fine…
As good as any dream could get-
I thought you would be mine.
The breeze that blew from everywhere
Was singing out your name-
But all the grandeur of my care
For you- was just a game.
At last I saw the way you played-
And missed what could have been…
The rain that flooded our parade-
Taught me I couldn’t win.
The earth has flown around the sun
So many times since then,
With no more seeking out the one-
To hurt like that again.
I don’t know how it was for you-
To play instead of feel…
The game’s the best that you can do-
So nothing will be real.
I still sometimes may pass the stage
Where we almost proposed…
But wisdom comes to me with age-
I know the curtain’s closed.
John H. Bidwell
I can relate to what you have expressed through your verses here, John; your words speak to my soul. This poem reminds me of one of mine posted here at AD entitled: "Curtains, Your Call." Thank you for sharing. Love and peace,
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
