I wrote this when my Mom died last year.
Dad is dying now.

Passages

As time goes by and history unfolds
In moments where it all becomes a blur,
The heart will dwell on memories it holds
Still wishing things could be the way they were.

Such happy times that linger in the past
With memories of loved ones oh so dear,
But even then we knew it couldn’t last
For life is growing through the things we fear.

The future does bring treasures of its own
As love grows even deeper than before,
We need not dread so much, but make it known
Those passages bring with them even more.

For every bit of love we ever shared
In some grand way I’m finding still exists.
We miss time spent with those for whom we cared
But find that all the love they had persists.

I recognize in every gift of love
The part of us that never really dies,
But warms us like the sunshine from above
And promises to never break the ties.

Watching someone die is a struggle for those left behind. Remembering they are going on the most wonderful journey of their existance helps. It puts faith in perspective and gives meaning to living at all.

Well done, John. I hope your dad has an easy passage. With you by his side, I'm sure he will.

Hi John.. I am so sorry for your loss.. My father passed away several months ago.. I think I am still in denial in some ways.. It is so hard to lose theONE person you think will always love you NO MATTER WHAT.. This was sad but well expressed. My heart to you!

Awesome poem... this line struck at me:

"We miss time spent with those for whom we cared
But find that all the love they had persists."

So very true... i'll be praying for your Dad..

John,
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Lost my Mother a couple of years ago and share a lot of your feelings. There is a great deal of wisdom and truth in what you have written. Very thought provoking. Thank you.
