Excuse me if I lie in bed all-night and think of you.
It’s just a life long habit that I somehow got in to.
You always were so beautiful to me- yet who knows why?
It’s just, I never thought you’d say “Goodbye.”

I’ve got such precious memories of all the love we shared.
You said I was your special one, you said that we were paired.
You had that way of making me so happy I would cry...
It’s just, I never thought you’d say “Goodbye.”

So many things kept happening to point at you and me,
As if this was a wondrous love we knew was meant to be.
The times we were together- I have never been so high.
It’s just, I never thought you’d say “Goodbye.”

We were two giddy poets walking through the land of love
Encompassing the wonder that must come from up above.
And soaking in the romance that was raining from the sky...
It’s just, I never thought you’d say “Goodbye.”

And yet, you have a way of choosing cold and distant men.
I never understood it, but I’m sure you will again.
So when you found a soulmate who will love you ‘till I die,
I should have known that you would say “Goodbye.”
