Are You Winter?

Are You Winter?

Are you winter? Can that now be why
I feel as if my heart’s about to die?
How can I wake when each new day my sun
No longer shines on her beloved one?

There used to be a reason for my days-
To open up to your life giving rays,
And bloom from all the glory you inspire.
What brings you now to take away the fire?

The shadows cast still tell me you are there,
But now it seems you don’t or will not care.
And ours was love that came without a doubt,
But I need warmth and you have put me out.

Is it so hard, the little that I ask?
Some simple words of kindness such a task?
It does take two, and now without your part
I’m living through the wilting of my heart.

For what I was and what I could have been,
To lose all this just has to be a sin.
My heart can understand if you must wait,
But flesh and blood may bring you back too late.

I hear the chatter just behind the door,
And wonder if you’ll take me in once more.
But if my love your darkened ways disturb
You might as well just put me at the curb.

How clever, John, to search your depths so achingly by using our seasonal changes.. the blooms, the fierce cold, the fading/dying of love.. I thought the meter was hypnotic.. could feel the pain of it. Wonderful piece. (hope you're alright) katy xox.
