Heat
The warmth of the sun beating down,
sweat pours profusely from every pore,
each step, feet burning from the ground,
no escape not even if you close the door.
The sun shining brightly up in the sky,
it’s burning rays penetrating the earth,
so hot you can’t breath, you could die,
in a sweltering room a girl gives birth.
Miracle of life comes in the heat or frost,
skin drips, just soaking in human sweat,
unable to breath wondering if life is lost,
drenched, hair dripping appearing all wet.
Sun glowing in the sky with amber rings,
the air itself, so hot it burns one’s lungs,
visions of cooler times and happy things,
dogs panting with their extended tongues.
The new born baby lets out it’s first cry,
off in the distance a church rings it’s bell,
there in the heat exhausted wondering why,
venturing out for water from the old well...
