Land of Our Fears

Wandering upon the edge of time,
lost in this world of utter confusion,
power and greed consumes the mind,
and fantasies create colorful illusions.

Searching where you’ve never been,
discovering that which you e’er seek,
once removed, there is no way to win,
without justice for the humble or meek.

The sun beating down upon your back,
each step we struggle trying not to fall,
striving for the courage we often lack,
finding the cliffs and mountains so tall.

Shadows casting in the morning light,
of people and places we known before,
bombs exploding in the sky ever bright,
haunted with memories of a distant war.

Constantly devoured by earthly schemes,
filled with blood, sweat, and lonely tears,
hoping to awake to it all being a dream,
the journey across the land holds our fears.

those distant wars were so horrible as is he one going on in Iraq now. Nothing comes from war but sorrow, and death and loss of good men and women. Families destroyed on both sides, It seems senseless to me, but wars have been around since bible days, so something must come out of it that I don't see.

When I read your poem, I am reminded of how vulnerable we are to our own illusions of power.
