Scents From The Past

Memories swirl in a pool of love lost haste
moving way too slow, wishing them away.

Clogging well worn pathways
exhausting known escapes,
want to embrace feelings
lost along the way.

Years reverse to minutes
clocks will never stop,
smothered in my pillow
a tiny tear does drop.

Forgive you for the grief
a gift you gave my heart,
I hope to soon forget
love that's torn apart.

Tattooed in my soul
pain continues to grow,
Spring gave birth today
filled with the scent of you...

Scents and smells, ~Z~, are extremely strong memories, even more, it is said than sight...As soon as I opened and saw the name of this poem I recalled one scent from my school days, soap in a boys bathroom in an old school that has since been torn down, what a weird memory, but you inspired it, such a nice poem regarding same...Peace thru Words, Ed & Rufuz

Scents are powerful reminders of the past. We cannot control when they affect us. Our strength comes through in how we bear the pain.

Well done, Zenith! I especially loved the last stanza:

"Tattooed in my soul
pain continues to grow,
Spring gave birth today
filled with the scent of you..."
