My time of earthly cares may be drawing to a close.
When exactly it will happen, no one can rightly suppose.
The parchment of life is yellowed and wrinkled to boot.
Why not save expectation, say the word and simply shoot.
Impossible, old Chronos would no doubt to the multitude say.
The Father of Time knows precisely when and where to say nay.
This leads me to thoughtfully reflect upon these earthly cares.
Possibly all these years neglected with many debts still in arrears.
Chance events happening in our lives as random as the rain,
Interrupting the flow of our routines with beauty and pain.
What if you were told you had only one more day to live,
One more day to breathe fresh air, one more day to give?
Isn’t that a real possibility with the power to interrupt time,
One last rhythm of a day, ending with one last unique rhyme?
The secret is to live each day of our lives as if it were the last;
Every day first, every day last; we live our lives, then it is past.
A lot of reflecting in the poems I read here. I think as we begin to recognize that time is of the essence, we should make sure we don't have too many loose ends. Especially for others to have to take care of. As far as regrets and other things undone, I think it's better not to worry about that but to do what you can while you can and not worry about what you will measure leave unfinished.
again, the problem of time is crucial but, as always, it is out of our control; however, we try to gain the upper hand by all means. As Alexander Suvorov (1730-1800), the famously known Russian general-in-chief, once said, “One minute decides the outcome of a battle, one hour decides the success of a campaign, one day decides the fate of a whole empire.” On the other part of the world, the absolutely peaceful Daoists (men of the Dao), for example, divide a day into 80 pieces (18 min. per piece) in order to feel the current life in its fullest minutiae. . . A great job. Cheers, alex

Great last line, John, but what of all those promises we made to the young about 'planning ahead', lofty goals and progress? Didn't we condemn those lazy hippies for living each day as if it were the last?
Oh boy, can I connect with this one, John. You put together a splendid bit of writing, hitting all the fine points. Old folks will "get" this, the young probably not.
From the Caribbean Sea to Machu Picchu in Peru, and from birds to flowers and butterflies, Reflections and Treasured Wonders offers a collection of images gathered from around the world.
