It is a difficult task
In this world
To be One's true self

Many people hide
Behind masks

Masks of falsehood
Maybe they are ashamed
Maybe they are afraid
Maybe the mask hides
The ugliness of who
They truly are

Others clothe themselves
In self-protective shields
Fear of rejection
Fear of ridicule
They fear that they
Will not be accepted
If they reveal their inner selves

I would rather be unclothed
To wear my heart
On my sleeve

Of course,
It is more easily broken
For it is fully exposed
But I want to be loved
For the person I truly am

And I am not afraid

For it is a true joy

To be naked and unashamed

I completely agree even if it means being hurt time and time again. Love and peace to you,

My My My, but you are an inquisitive bunch. The only place that I remain anonymous is here...no where else in my life and for reasons that I prefer not to mention.

Well I think everyone else has about covered it all. Though I do agree with your philosphy, C'mon take off the mask, hehe, well at least give us some sort of name.

If you are truly naked and unashamed, then why hide behind *****************'s? You've written a great deal of truth here, so why are you masking yourself? Be proud and stand behind your work! Michelle

You always look very nice to me and the more important side is the one of compassion that I know, for a fact...you have within. I'm happy with you just the way you are so don't change a hair for me.

I maintain we all have our own little masks that we peek in and out of whenever the mood occurs. Some of these masks are not so small, and some are horrid.

It is so important to know one's true self and not hide behind a mask. Your friends should love you for who YOU ARE, and not someone you imagined that is not true.

Soon as you accept yourself for who you are can your friends accept you also.

I love this poem!
