Written a lifetime ago when life was not as sweet as it is today....
I sit outside on my back porch Smoking Not like me... not like me I exhale and a halo of blue smoke Encircles me I peer at a robin Over tear-stained cheeks Remembering the yesterdays And the tomorrows that Will never be And in my reverie I am suddenly calmed By the essence of lilacs

I love lilacs more than any other flower including roses. The fragrance of lilacs in a house always bring soothing happy memories of summer as children.

I too have been calmed by the essence of lilacs when I was a little girl. We had an enormous lilac tree that sat in our front lawn, I still write poetry about it today. This is a wonderfully written poem!!
