Follow-up Post to
‘I’m a Grandpa’
“One cat just leads to another.”
Ernest Hemingway
My spouse was in total shock
When she arrived home last night,
To find five more tiny felines,
And me cackling with delight.
She immediately pummeled me
With her powerful right cross.
After she finished beating me up,
I reminded her who’s boss.
Now I’m black and blue and white,
Just like the five new kitty cats,
And my body hurts like hell,
There’s no doubt about that.
But as I’ve reminded her
More than a time or two,
I can’t resist helping critters,
It’s just something that I do.
I once had a faithful old dog
Who saw me through a bitter divorce.
I had to fight for this pooch
In a very nasty Divorce Court.
After surgery, I hemorrhaged,
As I slept soundly in my bed.
If this dog hadn’t woken me,
I would surely be dead.
When I lost this sweet old dog
My depression was beyond belief,
And that’s when a kitten showed up,
Who soon healed away my grief.
My heroic dog’s complete story,
As well as that of my compassionate cat,
And dozens of other tales of intriguing critters,
Are in my animal book, as a matter of fact.
I felt compelled to write it,
In my attempt to praise and explore,
The many merits of all living creatures,
In the cities, deserts, mountains, and shore.
I believe we should all repay compassion
Shown to us as we journey through life,
And I thank God every day for these critters,
And for my normally very understanding wife.
But right this very minute,
She’s not the only one upset.
If my dogs’ looks could kill,
I’d fall down dead, I bet.
But they’ll soon get over this,
As will my lovely wife.
It truly is a Wondrous,
Critter-filled life.
“Sweetie, how does my black eye look today?”
“Shut up, you old ape, or I’ll smack you again!”
“Yes, dear.”
“And walk the dogs; they look depressed.”
“Yes, dear.”
“And clean up that kitten mess!”
“Yes, dear. Hey, wait a minute. Look at this!
Isn’t this kitten poop precious?
Maybe I should have it bronzed!”
one word...LOL
(((HUGS))) and love, karla.
you must have been at the neighbors--they have seven cats, two dogs and two rabbits (they'll probably have a lot more than that by next week LOL)
Only from YOU, Eddie, but it's a good thing they always find a
loving care-giver!
oops the wife already did it;-) methinks you need
a farm then you can revel in animals;-)Great write!
Did you hear that Ronald Reagan left a sign for the
squirrels said:"beware of dogs" ;-)
I was very moved by the reference to your magical, wondrous dog when we nearly lost you entirely in the bed. Perhaps you could bargain with Rebecca: Honey, if you don't stop hitting me and help with the "kids" I will never cut my hair again! How's that? Oh, god... I think I hear "The General" at the door.... Everybody HIDE! hehe.. katy xox.

Yes, there's nothing like stray cats and dogs
to liven up the old union. ;)
Yup my two cats helped me through a bitter divorce, till I could afford them no longer, I was feeding them and not feeding myself.
Funny how thing go cos the rabbit kicked the guinnea pig, so I stayed up nusing it all night, giving it whiskey, till it stop screaming, and died peacefully then the rabbit had a stroke. The hamster climbed the stairs came into my room and died.
I left the tropical fish for the new owners.
A cat-istrophic write buddy boy... Love the pic' and the caption..
