Mother’s Day has come again

Time for me my love to send

To my Mom The Little General

Who these very sad days is not well

Time and illness have now taken their toll

But her motherly love lives on in her soul

And yet I’ve always been her problem child

I’ve always been her one offspring most wild

Yet she loves me as any good mother would

Yet she loves me – as only my mother could

Now we sit and talk lovingly for hours at a time

Now we laugh and reminisce about my many crimes

She still likes to scold me about how I tormented my three siblings

She still reminds me of all those sleepless nights to her I would bring

She still grimaces about all the assorted creepy critters I would bring home

She still sternly reminds me of all those very nasty complaints on the phone

Yet throughout my childhood she always defended me in her heart

Yet throughout my rebellious teens her motherly love did not depart

And when my first marriage failed and I became a very bitter man

She was always there to support me – as only a loving mother can

But when Rebecca finally arrived she was ecstatic to hand over her man-child,

Proclaiming to her, “May the Lord now give you strength in your arduous trial!”

And now thankfully in her waning days, mother and child truly bond with each other,

Happy Happy Mother’s Day, to My Little General – I truly do love you, Mother
