“Those nimble little musicians of the air

That warble forth their marvelous ditties,

Which nature hath furnished them to the shame of art.”

Izaak Walton

I have never used a calendar

To herald the arrival of Spring

But I know when it’s arrived

By the singing telegram it brings

Spring officially arrived at our home

Just yesterday at the very crack of dawn

My cats and dogs knew it was here first

Rushing to the window staring at the lawn

As I jumped up to see what was going on

I heard a melody echoing through the air

And soon alongside my many curious pets

I sat transfixed in my window as we stared

The messenger’s red uniform was unmistakable

His singing telegram was loud and right on key

I soon joyously threw open our home’s back door

And we eagerly rushed out our hearts now filled with glee

Many other newly arrived red uniformed singing messengers soon appeared

And their singing telegram magically transformed into an outdoor symphony

Soon all of us began inhaling the warm invigorating newly arrived spring air

As we sprawled on my lawn joyously listening to spring’s glorious concerto for free

I have never used a calendar

To herald the arrival of Spring

But I know when it’s arrived

By the marvelous telegram it brings

Oh don't you love the sight and song of the first robin of spring?!
Pure praise from their throats. Beauty, Ed...Lin

Wonderful scene you captured Ed. Each season has its own birds to sing. In our country we have some birds that forecast disasters like droughts and war through their melody and songs.

This is a treasure, Ed. A bit of whimsey but a whole lot of heart and honest emotions. A beautiful poem and one for me to keep to bring spring into my heart in even on the coldest and darkest of winter days.
Take care,
Sherry

I love to hear the melodic warbles and trills of the red robins and cardinals at the beginning of spring, it is a lovely cachopony of music that gladdens the heart and soul
This is a stirring and refreshing write that prepares us for new beginnings and fresh starts, in conjunction with the spiritual period of Lent
Thank you Ed, and the picture and quote are quite memorable !

Yes, the first sign of spring is always a symphony and how I love those sweeties who sing the melody that stirs our frigid cells to life! Thanks for the happy notes you played this morning, little eddie, along with your buddies!;-)

Perhaps getting some better cans and some rope attached, you will hear of the spring that much sooner...E & R

Ed,

Just now seeing robins? We here in Texas have been seeing them since the end of January! A wonderful tribute to the first messengers of Spring. Well done!

I don't need an official date. When the ground is soft and shoots appear that to me starts Spring but if birds that sing appear that would be icing on the cake.
