My spouse and I are both animal lovers

As most everyone acquainted with us knows

So when we heard about this critter’s extinction

Both of us were filled with great sadness and woe

The great Pink Flamingo is now passing into history

No longer will they be manufactured in Massachusetts

Once these plastic lawn ornaments were American icons

And we believe their earthly demise should not come yet

Once 20 million of these pink beauties graced America’s lawns

And they were truly revered by families from sea to shining sea

But today in our far too cruel and uncaring selfish modern world

People have abandoned them and tossed them in the trash with glee

I will never forget the first Pink Flamingoes I ever saw

I was a young lad living in the great metropolis of Chicago

When one wondrous day my grandmother brought home two

They became the first two pets I ever had and I loved them so

And each and every time that I have moved to a new home

I’ve brought these two plastic pets of mine along for the ride

My aging heart now weeps for their millions of plastic brethren

In our nation which once displayed them on our lawns with pride

So my spouse and I have decided to start a Pink Flamingo Sanctuary

Here on the palatial grounds of old Thornwood Manor our new home

Here these now scorned and ridiculed and abandoned plastic creatures

Can now live out their days in peace with our treasured plastic gnomes

So if anyone out there finds any Pink Flamingoes in the trash

Please send them out here to Thornwood Manor without delay

We have pledged to care for and provide each of them with sanctuary

And we’ve vowed to build a fabulous Pink Flamingo Museum one day

Tax deductible monetary contributions are also welcome

To our new nation-wide Save the Pink Flamingo Fund

We may have to buy additional land to accommodate them

Our historic work on their behalf – has probably just begun

But Now – They’ll All Be – Stayin Alive,

And Thankfully,

They Don’t Need Much Food,

To Survive
