Reminiscing On a Bitterly Cold Winter’s Day,

While Looking Through Old Photo Albums

After we got deported from Ireland

We Brothers Ed hitchhiked with our thumbs

Drifting ever southward to much warmer climes

Eventually arrivin in the south seas, as beach bums

As old Jersey Ed now pounded on his bongos

Edvard and I would strum out a sweet melody

The tourists would usually toss us a few bucks

We three were livin the good life, we were free

Every day we would get up around Noon

And we’d start playin our Brother Ed tunes

We’d always make enough money for booze

But our Beach Bum days sadly ended too soon

It wasn’t long before old Jersey had to have some weed

And we had to high tail it real fast back up to our homes

But sittin here today in this freezin weather and rememberin

Made me think back to those warm days we were on the roam

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be beach bums

Don't let 'em pick their guitars, and hang out on the shore

Make 'em be doctors, and lawyers, and writers, and such

Or they’ll just be runnin from those old lawmen, ever more

And if you’ve got a brother like Jersey,

He’s sure to get ya in trouble with the law;

But if he sends his two brothers Ed some cash,

We probably won’t forward this poem, to Maw

Beach bums, you say? Sounds like a wonderful way of life. I think on your next adventure you should leave Jersey at home with Maw, then you boys can have an ever better time.

God bless you. Kathy

A trio of handsome talented musicians there, Ed. I could get a Tuba and join you guys the next time. At least the Tuba would give somewhere to hide the weed!!

I like this Ed. Made me nostalgic of our beach. No tourists there though; just bums with their drinks and guitars and Maws looking for their children who escaped classes to swim. And its warm througout the year.

Cheers,

Regino

I was born a few blocks off the beach down in Gulfport, MS. I wish you Eds had come by there. Now I live in GA and am freezing parts of my body that weren't meant to freeze. I'm sure Jersey will share with you. Great read!

Yes, the snow does bring out the best memories of warmer climates. Great words to bring on the smiles. Lady J

Loved this...you sure brought a smile to my face today...it's bitter cold here in the mountains of Ky today as well. When I first heard the music I thought sure you were going to have long braids and cowboy hat like good ole Willie...everybody loves Willie. I actually had a car named after him. Yeap, the secrets out...I name my automobiles. Anyway, Willie was a Toyota I previously owned, after I nearly drove the wheels off my sunbird I told Den the first time I drove the Toyota I was just like Willie, on the road again and hence forth my little corolla was named Nelson...sure was a good ole car. Enjoyed the write and the trip down memory lane, hadn't thought about this in a number of years....Enjoyed your poetic tale, loved the picture too....thanks for the smile my friend! Oh yeah, I call jeep Ruby...guess what other country singer I enjoy listening to?
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Sitting here after reading this, it's just reached 31F. with a wind chill of twenty-something, I am getting this terrible itch to go to Key West and sit on the sidewalk and play my guitar. With the case open and "seeded" with a couple three bills. Yep, Sounds like a plan, c'mon down.

So which one is the weed, lol.
BTW, thanks, you've sent some snow, it even lay deep crisp and even, well nearly a millimetre for over 10 mins, and that was only on car roofs. Well that's winter over, now for spring, summer and autumn perpetual cloud cover...
