And I Cannot Believe

The Words Our Politicians

So Callously Spew Out Today.

There is no doubt now the Polar Ice Caps are melting

And scientists believe Global Warming is the real cause

We should truly ponder the consequences of our actions

And the plight of earth’s animals should give us all pause

Two-thirds of Earth’s existing polar bears now face extinction

By the year 2050, proclaims the U.S. Geological Survey Team

Yet, our own government still refuses to list them as ‘Endangered’

And yesterday’s comments by a politician make me want to scream

“There is insufficient evidence

That polar bears are in danger of becoming extinct

Within the foreseeable future.”

One has to wonder what planet our politicians now live on

And if refusing to help protect animals, including polar bears

Has anything at all to do with all the pending oil and gas drilling

The Governor only seems to have visions of pipelines everywhere

It seems to me that while most of us have been fast asleep for years

Our crafty politicians have figured out a way to deceive us once again

Despite scientific knowledge to the contrary, ‘we’ll just do more research’

Before the gullible public even realizes it, too many animals will meet their end

These polar bears have lived on Earth’s polar ice caps for eons

And soon, the only place we may find these creatures is in a zoo

I truly wonder what future generations of educators will have to say

When school children of Earth’s future sadly ponder such pictures, too

We are very sadly and very tragically failing as Earth’s animal stewards

While greed and profit and lies rule our lives, more and more each day

I wonder when the day will come when we’ve killed off all of its animals

And for my own earthly demise, before that happens, I now hope and pray
