Definitely Not the National Wildlife Week Poem,
That I Had Very Hopefully Wanted To Pen;
It’s Now Time For Me To Very Sadly Give Up,
America’s Respect For Nature Is Now At An End
Music: All Is Gone
It didn’t take salivating predators
Very long at all, to kill their prey
He was now, no longer welcome
In a land, turned so savage today
He had lived here, amongst his many enemies
For eight years, never hurting one human soul
But powerful and greedy special interest groups
Had convinced our ‘leaders,’ his kind had to go
So when our ‘leaders’ counted all the cash they could be getting
They soon removed his kind, from The Endangered Species Act
And this well known wolf named Limpy, was quickly gunned down
We have become a nation of nature killers; a very sad, horrifying fact
Limpy, The Wild American Wolf, Was Many Things:
To America’s nature lovers, Limpy was the hobbling, yet somehow enduring, celebrity member of Yellowstone National Park’s Druid Peak Wolf Pack.
To residents of the Yellowstone area, Limpy had been the first wild wolf that they had seen in more than 70 years.
To me, Limpy was an extremely powerful symbol – a symbol that maybe, just maybe, there might be a tinge of hope left for America’s remaining wild animals today.
But to extremely powerful elk hunting groups and modern day ranchers, Limpy was an agonizing thorn in their side. Wolves, by their very god-given nature, hunt elk, deer, and other animals. How could they possibly continue to share the riches of our nation, with Limpy’s kind? How could they possibly allow he and his kind to continue eating, their trophy elk? How could they possibly allow old Limpy’s celebrity status, to continue to grow?
And to our nation’s leaders, bowing to these cash cow lobbyists, Limpy’s death meant more cold hard cash for their election campaign coffers.
So I guess, in reality, old Limpy never had much of a chance at all in modern day America; and we grossly outnumbered and underfunded nature lovers in this country today, never had much of a chance either.
Very sadly to me, and to many others, the savage, cold blooded, killing of our remaining wild animals has now begun in earnest.
Our politicians are taking more and more of these extremely beleaguered creatures off the Endangered Species List every day now; refusing to put others like the Polar Bear on it; and we American citizens are very callously sitting back and allowing this to happen.
Only a few short days after their federal protection was removed, Limpy and two other members of his Druid Peak Pack were savagely gunned down in an area frequented by an elk herd.
And in just the last few weeks, at least 17 more wolves have been murdered in the Greater Yellowstone Area.

Like you, I was incredibly saddened by this horrid turn... I'm still in shock that some freaking idiot was willing to gun down such an icon, or any other noble animal for that matter. It's weeks like this that make rescuers and advocates like you and I and countless others wonder why we are still making the effort. But remember that what we do is important work. Stay strong. Let's get legislation reinstated to protect the wolves and all of the other creatures that people want to destroy rather than love and protect. If the animals don't have us, well - they have no one. So - we continue our work and pray that karma will take out the ones who have to feed their pathetic little egos on the destruction of a creature far more noble than they could ever dream of becoming... There are not enough bad things to say about these people who have to prove themselves through the death of another. With luck, THEY will one day have to be considered for the endangered species list and will be turned down. Then we can all return the favor...

Like you, I have admired the Wolf for its beauty, loyalty to pack, faithful and protective mate, and its countenance!
Limpy was a symbol of his kind.

Tiny quail are poured onto the ground from their cages where they sit confused and REAL hunters wait with beating hearts and elephant guns.
Tiny quail are prodded, kicked and at times lifted by hand to be thrown into the air so REAL hunters can blast them.
apparently these tiny quail are hand raised by a small woman-- the tiny ones who make it across the street and sit on my porch flock to me as I go in and out. Good Grief.
The wolves didn't have a chance from the time man set foot on the American continent. doesn't say much for us as humans, does it
