May 4-10 Is ‘Be Kind To Animals Week’
Something I Believe We Should Be Doing
All Year Long, And Teaching Our Children,
If We Hope To Leave Them A Caring World

Squirrel first appeared on my front doorstep
This past winter, when it was about 20 below
He looked so very forlorn, and so very hungry
So I fed him some nuts, and he loved them so
Dove appeared in my fenced in flower garden
Several weeks back, also looking so alone and sad
So I quickly gave her some birdseed and fresh water
And these days, she seems far more content and glad
And now, my cats let me know when Squirrel gets here
And my four dogs bark, whenever Dove comes flying in
And I always stop whatever I may be doing at the moment
And I head outside, to greet my two tiny little friends again
The three of us now gather out back by the old maple tree
And Squirrel sits very contentedly, eating a peanut or two
And Dove, she loves to serenade the three of us with song
Two tiny friends of mine who today no longer have the blues
And after spending a little time together, out in my old backyard
My two tiny friends and I go our separate ways to work and play
But I really do believe that all three of us, enjoy our time together
And we all look forward to our next get-together the following day
Two tiny little neighbors of ours, on this planet we call home
Two often neglected and harassed, or not even noticed creatures
Just looking for a little understanding, and respect, and friendship
Please teach your own children about an animal’s fascinating features

And Teaching Children To Respect This Week?

I have this Grey squirrel sitting on my big bird feeder every day, if I don't get out early enough to spread some seed, it just like a kid, keeps going around hiding on the other side thinking I can't see it, yesterday I pulled the end of its tail, that didn't bother it, it just moved further around, so I went face to face, about a foot away, it listened carefully while munching away sort of saying can't you see I am hungry, they sure know how to reach ones heart don't they.
