Dedicated to A.D. Member

Abdi-Noor Haji Mohamed;

In Response To his Recent Poem,

Family

“The caged bird sings with a fearful trill,

Of things unknown, but longed for still;

And his tune is heard on the distant hill,

For the caged bird, sings of freedom.”

Maya Angelou

He’s an author, a poet, a journalist

Who writes from his heart and soul

He writes of the great pain he endures

For a war-torn nation which he loves so

So many of us in this world today

Take peace and freedom for granted

We don’t have to go to bed each night

Worrying about mortar shells overhead

We don’t have to fret about what horror tomorrow brings

Or if our families will stay safe another day, in our homes

We take for granted the peace and freedom that we enjoy

But writers like him, write much different types of poems

For people today, hailing from nations in great dis-harmony

The world seems like a far different place, than it does to others

I read his many poems and articles penned from deep within his soul

I read of his great love and concern for his nation’s sisters and brothers

He has now journeyed far from home, seeking a safer haven in this world

And he now yearns to be re-united again, with his wife and his family there

For the suffering human souls like himself, seeking a life of peace and freedom

We should pray for a much better world in which peaceful freedom can be shared

Ed, not only do you write about the critters of the world but your writings about people's struggles in far off lands touch our hearts as we too have read Abdi-Noor's writings and felt the pains, heartaches and sufferings within his words. Ed you are a true ambassador for peace, love and hope, and both you and Abdi-Noor, work tirelessly to tell the world of the wrongs in this world.

You are both ambassadors of peace, love and harmony and for a one-world world-view. May your tireless work, dreams and aspirations to see your visions fulfilled prosper - a prayer indeed, because it seems virtually impossible within the realms of men to achieve such a thing. Yet, were it down to you and Abdi-Noor, we would have some hope... God bless you both! xx

We shoul write, write, write and yet write a little more, until all the G.O.P.s of the world put inside their empty heads that it has been thousand of years of effort trying to silence the poets, an no one has succeeded.

From the moment I saw Abdi's picture here in this poem, I was weeping as I read your heartfelt beautiful poem. ED you are the man, you are the one that has such a powerful voice, and I second everything you have said here about Abdi, he is a true humanitarian, only searching for peace and freedom for his people and his family. I have had many opportunities to communicate with this man that calls himself The Eagle Of Hope, it is my hope that his life is spared and that of his family. We must reach out and help him, it would be inhuman if we don't...
Thank you for writing this.
Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

A most beautiful, compassionate write for a most beautiful, compassionate Poet - who only wants the best for his family - should we deny him that? Abdi-Noor and family are definately in my prayers - Well done, Ed -

I do pray every night for peace and prayed for Abdi-noor last night too. We have some peace, some freedom but not enough in this world. It is not lasting peace and more freedom can be had if the right Gov't official gets into office. Judges are crooked nowadays, getting people off and lying and getting them out of jail faster than they should. It is a crooked political world and I am just fed up to my ears with it. I pray change comes in 2009.

ED - well penned verse, and so true.

Would that the so-called disenchanted thugs, hoodlums, and gang-bangers here in America would take the time to read and learn about the plight of others in other countries. Perhaps they would then realize what great opportunities exist for them to become honest, productive, peaceful citizens.

Someone once wrote that - "your freedom ends where my nose begins." Which basically means that you are free to do just about anything, EXCEPT punching or hurting another, in any way. The 'drive-by' shootings of innocent children and other victims, is just as heinous as any other act of war, or genocide. Freedom is not a wild, un-tethered Mustang - rather, it is a gentle Mare, with invisible, but conscious Reins!

Peace and Freedom have never been FREE - they require a Compassion for Humanity, a deep feeling of Love for one's Brothers and Sisters, no matter how Different, and an ever-present Desire to employ both Empathy and Sympathy. For this to be achieved, the negative of Apathy must be overcome!

The song lyrics - "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" come to mind. Also, "...if there is to be Peace, let it begin with me..." Peaceful Freedom somehow does not just flow forth freely -
it must be strived for - worked at - remembered and reminded to others - each and every day. Like all other worthwhile goals, it requires intestinal fortitude, as well as, a caring heart - like YOURS!

Peace - and - Freedom, my Friend ... Tom.

You are right above many of us who live in peace and freedom are taking it for granted. I hope Abdi will never lose his spirit to fight for what is right. His poetic voice is heard through the internet worldwide. I'm praying for him and wish him luck and peace.

Thank you for sharing his news with us!!!
