Such gluttonous beings we’ve become
Such totally inept, Stewards of this Earth
Now, we be-grudge pelicans eating ‘our’ trout
Our escalating Man vs. Animal War has no worth
Our leaders protected wolves under the Endangered Species Act
They protected sea lions under the Marine Mammal Protection Act
White pelicans were protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
And now, we greedy human beings want all this protection taken back
Powerful elk hunting lobbyists now want every wolf in America killed
Commercial fishermen have now declared war on our nation’s sea lions
Trout fishermen out West now demand that even pelicans be slaughtered
And many old nature lovers like myself, have now very sadly started cryin
Our elk herds are in peril, not because of wolves, but because of their habitat loss
Our salmon are vanishing, not because of sea lions, but because of our killing dams
And these pelicans are not responsible for our dwindling trout, our polluted rivers are
And I hate to tell you, fellow human beings, all three of these things, are caused by man
But some frustrated trout anglers don’t care,
They’ve already begun killing white pelicans;
And now, they’re also destroying pelican eggs,
And yet another Man vs. Animal battle has begun.
Very soon, as our human population now skyrockets,
And all of our resources such as fresh fish, disappear;
Many of us will increasingly blame other earth species,
Even many birds and animals that many once held dear.
And very horrendously, to old nature lovers like myself,
We sadly know that this is just the beginning of this war;
Our very own grandchildren, will despise us all one day,
When they discover, that what God had given, is no more.

Well they can go to hell if they're killing birds for a sport! I love fishing and in Florida (saltwater beaches) if you surf fish and are careless you can somtimes entangled one. It only happened once to me, but I didn't get mad. I carefully waded out and freed the bird.
I have nothing against activities that involve wilderness resources but when "your game" is more important then the natural balance I say call it quits.
Still, what the "leader does" many will emulate. This disturbing trend began with the BUSH administration that has taken "carte blanche" out on wildlife to kill it when it's in the way of developers, miners, oil drillers, ranchers, etc.
What the leader does, the people think it is an OK method.
We need a new moral example in leadership.
That it's NOT OK to kill creatures when they are in the way of our pursuits....
Oh well, I'm not planning on running nor I doubt you, Mr. Ed...
