“Happy, Happy Christmas,

That can win us back to the delusions of our childish days;

That can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth;

That can transport the sailor and the traveler,

Thousands of miles away,

Back to his own fire-side and home.”

Charles Dickens

As my wife and I and our pets

Stood admiring our latest snow

I was transported back in time

To Christmas Holidays, long ago

To those very nostalgic good old days

To those delightful old Holidays of Yore

When the Holiday Season was so wondrous

When each Christmas was better than before

Rising at the very crack of dawn

The smell of pine permeating the air

Truly joyous adults, children, and pets

Activity, love, and laughter everywhere

Back to those very nostalgic good old days

When the Holidays brought us so much joy

When the true meaning of this time of year

Filled the hearts of every adult, girl, and boy

Spending hours making all of those snowmen

Admiring the wondrous decorations outdoors

Listening to the marvelous Christmas Carolers

Shopping for heartfelt gifts at the old dime store

Those very nostalgic good old days of Christmas now past

When everyone knew everyone else, in each neighborhood

When friends and neighbors gathered, to help other friends

Those experiencing hard times, to help make them feel good

I very fondly remember those nostalgic good old days

Those truly wondrous, love filled, old Holidays of Yore

And each Christmas now, I treasure all of these memories

Since Alas, those good old fashioned Holidays, are no more

As my spouse and I now walk along the silent, snow covered, streets

We don’t spot any kids making snowmen, or any carolers out and about

The Holiday Season these sad days seems quite bleak, and not very merry

But those wondrous Holidays of Yore live on in my heart, without a doubt

Its what you MAKE of it, as personally I have no family & my friends have yet to invite me down to the shore, Rufuz and I may spend Christmas together walking the beach...After being raised an only child, with very little familial interaction, it isn't hard to spend it alone, in fact to a degree, I would rather...Merry, Merry to you Ed and the Boss & the assorted animals...Ed & Rufuz

ED - FINE JOB YOUNG MAN!

"Aaaaah Yes - I remember them well ..." - Maurice Chevalier in GIGI ...

stringing popcorn with a needle, to decorate the tree, then there was the
"ANGEL HAIR" made from fiberglass, that Mom washed my Dad's 'long-john's' in -
and almost ITCHED him to death -

having snowball battles with cousins and neighbor kids - drinking home-made egg-nog BEFORE blenders were invented, and swallowing a big long hunk of SLIME ... YUCK!

HOMEMADE 'HARD-TACK' COOKIES - that would break your foot if dropped!

those cute little bottles of sweet MANISHEWITZ WINE - cherry, white grape, concord grape, and a fourth flavor that escapes me now - that I SNUCK from the 'ice-box' - sat in a corner, sipped, and got my FIRST LOAD ON -

the old uncles and aunts gathered round the ole pianer 'chirpin' tunes' - my very first battery-operated remote-controlled car, that had a long WIRE ATTACHED to the control box - when the bumper hit a table or chair leg, the spring-loaded mechanical what-cha-ma-call-it shifted the bumper and the car REVERSED direction until the back bumper hit something!

my very first pair of flannel GENE AUTRY PAJAMAS! WOW! MY FIRST bycicle - my SISTER'S OLD GIRL'S BIKE that Dad so patiently painted, added a battery-operated horn, red-white-and blue handle-bar plastic streamers - and HID out in the garage - did my innocent face betray my disappointment when I saw it had no BOY'S CROSS-BAR? I HOPE NOT!

Tough times financially -
BUT NEVER EVER A LACK OF LOVE AND CARING - AND FUN!

Aaaah - yes, my Friend - I REMEMBER THEM WELL!

BUT - GUESS WHAT? THESE ARE THE GOOD OLE DAYS NOW!

WHEN MY EYES OPEN IN THE MORNING I SAY -
"THANK YOU GOD, FOR YET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL DAY!"

PEACE - ED - MEAN TALL WOMAM REBECCA -
AND ALL THE LUCKY CRITTERS AT THORNWOOD MANOR!

Tom.

I miss those days, too, Ed; we need to get back to the REAL Reason of the Season: the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!!

May you and your family have a very merry CHRISTmas, the merriest one EVER!!

Ed,

I, too, miss those days of yore, when there was a REASON for the Season: people have forgotten the true meaning. The first part of Christmas is Christ: without Him, things are just a mas(s) (MESS). May we return to those days, when there was hope and peace and above all, love ... well said, Ed. May you and your family have a very Merry Christmas.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
