“I frequently tramped eight or ten miles,

Through the deepest snow,

To keep an appointment,

With a beech-tree, or a yellow birch,

Or an old acquaintance among the pines.”

Henry David Thoreau

Today, is ‘Arbor Day’

Today, I celebrate, Trees

And, just like old Thoreau

They bring such joy to me

And although I love all trees

My very favorite, is the Pine

To me, their glorious fragrance

Is both exhilarating and divine

And today, on this Arbor Day

We should all be planting trees

We need to re-forest our country

For future generations of humanity

Our national tree, is the mighty Oak

It’s depicted, in many a story and poem

I also love White Birch, Elm, and Maple

I gaze in wonder at them around my home

Trees make our planet, a much better place

Planting one, is a present, for all of mankind

Please join me, in celebrating all Trees, today

And plant a tree, for future generations, to find

"A poem as lovely as a tree..." this I see - you did a nice arrangement here - clever! Trees give shade, cool the environment, breathe out Oxygen, and prevent floods and landslides. Timely reminder!

Let's hear it for the trees, Mr Ed, and for you for reminding us so well and for doing something about it.

So right you are my friend and I wonder how much more clear cutting this old earth can take but the nice think is I watched so many news reports of young school children out planting seedlings and thought...perhaps there is a chance.

Funny, we had a tree planted out front and two years after we moved in it just died. A few months later a tiny sprout broke through the ground, we left it alone and it now stands about thirty feet high. We have since planted a pear tree in the back. Cheers for Arbor day...

Be always safe,
Karen

I believe what Bear Paw said absolutely, I had planted three foot spruce in my backyard a few years back, they are now thirty feet tall and harbour all kinds of beautiful creatures.
Blessings friend! Jasmin Horst

Our city has joined forces with The Arbor Day Foundation to help residents plant trees to replace those that we lost last winter during a wind storm(more like a tornado). Many of our giants were uprooted. This is wonderful, as our town is known for it's trees. I lost a 32" diameter silver maple in the front yard and it tore me up. Happy Arbor Day, Ed! Plant a tree people and improve the quality of your life and the air you breathe. Go to http://www.arborday.org/ and get ten free trees. Good one, Ed...Lin

Hi Mr. Ed, I like the quote from Thoreau... trees are the grandmothers and grandfathers of this earth.. they have a lot to teach if people would only listen... thank you for the great reminder, shouldn't be just on arbor day, though... :] respects to you..

Bear

Yours is pine, mine is oak, and no matter what wrongs I have done in my life I know that I have planted some trees along the way. Although I had no idea that my trees had a birthday.
That shows that we learn new things no matter how old we are.

An especially nice reminder of Arbor Day and its meaning. Plus, it's the season for "greening up America". What better time than to plant a tree that will long linger still when we are gone--to leave our small contribution to this aging earth.
