“I love cats,

Because I love my home,

And after a while,

They become its visible soul.”

Jean Cocteau

I will never forget the day that I first saw her

She was outside my window, with a raccoon

They were fighting over one of my deck chairs

With dear old Jessie, I’d fall in love, very soon

At the time, she belonged to one of our neighbors

But she had begun hanging out, on our back patio

I soon talked to our neighbor who told me that Jessie

Had never really been very content living in her home

So, I eventually invited dear old Jessie to come live with us

And she accepted, since she craved the company of other cats

Dear old Jessie quickly became one of our most treasured felines

She had the soul of a true charmer, and she got to me just like that

How she adored napping in the sunlight, in our bedroom window

How she truly loved curling up on my lap, whenever I watched TV

How she was so adamant, whenever she wanted me to do something

How she would badger me each morning, when she now wanted to eat

We never really knew exactly how old our dear old Jessie really was

But she graced us with her charming presence, for over twelve years

Our old home is just not the same today, without our dear old Jessie

She died in my arms last night - today, there’ll be no end, to my tears

I’ll never forget the day that I first saw her,

She was outside my window, with a raccoon;

They were fighting over one of my deck chairs,

With dear old Jessie, I’d fall in love, very soon.

Dear Old Jessie, I Shall Always, Miss You

Sorry to hear that, Ed. I'll give you small comfort with what my Dad used to say to me, "If you never had'a had her, you never could'a lost her. You take from life the best you can get." ...............Jerry

So sorry, Ed. Know the pain of losing a pet. They are like our children, and yet such a comfort as they love us unconditionally. And each one is unique in all the world. The cats that come to us are special. I believe this just as I believe that there are no coincidences...Hugs, Lin

How quickly they make their way into our hearts and... then run our lives, but hey! They're loyal friend. You gave her a good life.

I was marking the anniversary (1 year) of my dear-old LookaLIke who passed on last April 29 now I just happened to read this. Despite or because of ALL the needful creatures you have adopted I feel for you because I know you treasure each one. And this cat was a real "Blue-eyed beauty" Reminds me that my neighbor's cat a sweet female tabby likes my place better than over there and my neighbor seems "mad" about it. But I'm not stealing her, she just loves attention and they NEVER come outside and talk to her or pet her (she's not allowed in) Oh well, you know the trials...
My sympathies...comfort thoughts to ya, michael

My sincere sympathy for although I am not a pet person myself I have witnessed first hand how much pets can mean to people.

I share your tears, dear Ed! Our pets become our children, and the heart aches when a child is gone. My Momma (who I lost two years ago) will welcome Jessie. {{{Hugs}}}} friend...

PEEWEE - terrific pic & tribute!

Sorry to learn of your family loss ... perhaps Jessie knew it was time to make room for another less fortunate critter to enter into your menagerie?

peace ... tom.

Ed, tt's always so sad when a beautiful soul leaves our lives but they never leave our hearts. Old Jessie was so blessed to have you, Rebecca and all your other critters - I'm sure the 12 or so years she lived with you were the happiest of her life. Your poem is a wonderful reflection of your love for her. You're in my thoughts.

Sorry brother, when one of them go, no matter how many you have around you, it's not the same. Like a big hole on the wall you will see it no matter what.
But old Jessie had a live with love and friendship, that should count!

Very sad write. I've had several cats in my lifetime as loyal and affectionate pets, and have cried when they died, so I know the pain of your loss.

So hard to to have that final farewell...Jessie was compelled to find your open arms years ago...and they are the same arms that were always there for her even in the end...what a tearful beautiful story...I pray for your pain...as my tears roll.
