My heart is now always extremely saddened
When I see all the horrendous animal cruelty today
Far too many modern day children are not being taught
How so many animals enrich our lives, in so many ways
Besides the week of May 3-9th being ‘National Pet Week’
This week is set aside to advocate ‘Kindness to All Animals’
We are all products of our early environment, and childhood
So kindness and compassion must be taught when we are small
The American Humane Association started this awareness week
To enhance a child’s understanding that animals need kindness too
But if today’s parents and teachers and clergymen don’t teach them
Far too many children today won’t understand it’s not OK to be cruel
They’ve even initiated a yearly contest to celebrate children who are kind
Their website showcases this year’s young winners who are helping animals
Please take a look at what some modern day kids are doing for animals, today
And please teach your own children compassion for all creatures, big and small
Put A Little Love In Their Hearts;
It Often Stays An Entire Lifetime.
