“I could not, at any age,

Be content to take my place by the fireside,

And simply look on.

Life was meant to be lived;

Curiosity must be kept alive.

One must never, for whatever reason,

Turn his back on life.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

I read these words by Mrs. Roosevelt

For the very first time, several years ago

They must have become lodged in my mind

My interest in all life, still continues to grow

The newborn kittens is my shed delight me

I’ve been fascinated by their daily progress

Their feline mother is a most loving one

The care she gives them, simply the best

Today, I’m fascinated by three baby robins

I found their nest in some nearby shrubbery

Watching how their mother cares for them

Has truly filled my heart and soul with glee

I had also moved their nest, to a higher location

Their mother had built it very close to the ground

She even seemed to agree that I had a sound idea

There were some egg eating critters lurking around

I also continue to visit the deer in the wood

Checking up on mother and her two fawn

I think my love of observing all life forms

Still makes me jump out of bed, at dawn

I still rush to the back window, to gaze out

Wondering what new life forms I might see

My entire life, I have been intrigued, by ‘life’

And by all the creatures of earth, sky, and sea

And when I can lend a hand to any life

Whether it be bird, animal, or fellow man

I feel that my own life, has a little purpose

And that’s a feeling, which I still find grand

“Nothing else matters much -- not wealth, nor learning, nor even health,

Without this gift: the spiritual capacity to keep zest in living.

This is the creed of creeds, the final deposit and distillation of all important faiths:

That you should be able to believe - in life.”

Harry Emerson Fosdick

Mr. Ed, You pen overflows with an inspiration that is much needed by this one. Life has its moments, and sometimes those moments seem to last a lifetime. Believing in Life is what is most forgotten. Thank you for sharing this....

“Nothing else matters much -- not wealth, nor learning, nor even health, Without this gift: the spiritual capacity to keep zest in living." These are such true words and the premise of your modus vivendi, Ed. The rhythm of life flows through your words and your heart. You take us out of ourselves to look up and around at the greater existance all around us. To look on life is to love... and you do! Love this, TY, Kate xx .... Got house martins nestin in the eaves above my study window... their warble's just peachy! :)) xx

You sure know how to live and what's important in life, is living, and living with all the living, you got it down pat!
Just build a little underground toadhouse, for some are finally coming back, and I want them to stay, to keep me company, ha.

We are the Observers...the Tellers...of a secret that lies within the wood and the faith in knowing that without us, the show would be canceled! May life go on and on...may our eyes and ears, every sense we possess, continue. . .as nature intended. What a wonderful pic, Ed. Paul and I and the kids witnessed two Carolina wrens build their nest right before us, in the ladder rungs hanging in our garage. Within two days their masterpiece was finished!
One week later mama laid three eggs and we all watched as her man brought her some food, once in a while she would fly out and leave us to attend their creations. Two long weeks later the first faint little peep, then the next, and finally the next...all healthy! The parents sang, and sang...they were overjoyed! We were proud too! Both were very busy feeding their wee ones, until one week later a black snake came through the window and ate them!...I cried, lied to the kids and said they flew away, I was ready to go out on a snake hunt...typical human displays. I must continue to be taught, yet, I never really listen! It's starting to make sense with ALL my senses...Your write verifies my find!
Outstanding thoughts, my friend in the wood...A Tellers job is based on how they react to what it is their observing!
I must condensed my pen...geez! ...Its been awhile, and I have LOTS TO SAY! LOL!
Love and Peace~

"And when I can lend a hand to any life"

The biggest hand you ever give your brothers is to ask for presents & then whine when you don't get them...

Despite what Georg says this is a nice write, as usual & always expected from you...Ed

Wonderful write, I enjoyed
To live life too it's fullest is very important
I get great joy just viewing the birds at my feeder each morning
If they were gone I'm sure my morning coffee would not be the same
