This nation of ours has truly been blessed
So much of our landscape, so very wondrous
Our National Parks were established by sage men
To preserve all of their natural beauty, for all of us
Over the course of the last 50 years, I have been blessed
To have visited and enjoyed these parks, across our land
They truly have been havens for me, in our hectic times
And I’ve always found their scenery and wildlife, grand
From Rocky Mountain National Park, in Colorado
To the magnificent Everglades, down in Florida
To ancient Bryce Canyon National Park, in Utah
To Voyageurs National Park, way up in Minnesota
From Denali National Park, way up in frigid Alaska
To The Gila Cliff Dwellings, down in New Mexico
To magnificent Isle Royale, on old Gitchee Gumee
I have loved every trek to our many national parks so
Each and every one of our national parks is wondrous
And each has glorious god-given scenery and wildlife
And each and every national park, which I have visited
Has provided a truly serene haven from modern day strife
But over the course of the last several decades or so
I’ve also sadly noticed that many do not care about them
I have very sadly watched, as they are being chipped away
By callous corporate interests, very intent on causing their end
Many in our modern world now want to rape and pillage them
They believe that our wildlife, and our nation’s natural beauty
Must now be sacrificed, in the name of modern day ‘progress’
But people like me, believe that preserving them, is our duty
Ken Burns has produced another marvelous documentary
It’s entitled, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea
It will be featured on PBS, starting on Sunday, the 27th
And I believe it’s a series that all Americans should see
Nearly a decade in the making, this new series is a visual feast
Featuring some of the most extensive and breathtaking images
Of our glorious national park system, and its wondrous wildlife
I have already purchased it, and I’ll be viewing it, again and again
This nation of ours has truly been blessed,
So much of our landscape, so very wondrous;
National Parks were established, by sage men,
To preserve all their natural beauty, for all of us.
And I Hope I Can Continue To Enjoy Them,
Especially Up in My Very Beloved Northwood;
Where, I Have Marveled at Truly Glorious Sunsets,
At The Loon, and At The Wolf and, I Find Them All Good.

I have the good fortune of living near Rocky Mountain and I visit
it nearly once a week, a short drive and one I never regret making.
