A woe-filled cry
Echoed in the night
A tiny, newborn, kitten
Filled with hunger and fright
Its mother had made her nest
In a hole, in a building rooftop
Now, mother and siblings gone
One kitten left, crying nonstop
I soon received a telephone call
“You think we can get it down?”
I drove out to the location given
I soon heard its woe-filled sound
We borrowed a ladder from someone
I climbed up, to see what I could do
As I got higher, its cries grew louder
Finally, I had this kitten, in plain view
I soon opened up a small can of cat food
This starving creature, crawled towards me
It sniffed the food, and it very ravenously ate
And I sadly realized, this little one couldn’t see
A tiny blind kitten left to fend for itself on a rooftop
I cradled it in my arms and carried it down to safety
A compassionate young woman decided to adopt it
A happy ending for both blind little kitty, and for me
A woe-filled cry,
Echoed in the night;
A blind, newborn kitten,
Filled with hunger and fright.
I pitied this little one in its blindness,
But can any of us boast that we see?
Perhaps there is a spirit nearby,
Who also now pities you and me.
I now hear so many complaining,
That we are powerless, to do anything;
But we are all capable, of doing something,
And I wait to see, what the morrow will bring.
