“Life is as dear to the mute creature,

As it is to a man.

Just as one wants happiness and fears pain,

Just as one wants to live and not to die,

So do other creatures.”

The Dalai Lama

My heart always breaks

When I read a sad tale like this

Far too many species, are now gone

This one, the last on the Endangered List

He had been named ‘Macho B’

He was the very last one, of his kind

Once, Jaguars roamed the entire Southwest

Now, no others like him, could Macho B find

I recall my wife’s father telling me

When he was a boy, in New Mexico

He would often spot a pair of Jaguars

On the high desert mesas, thrilling him so

Macho B was spotted, just south of Tucson

But he often looked, quite forlorn and afraid

He got caught in a bear trap, several months ago

So they decided to give him a tracking collar that day

The last Jaguar in these United States didn’t like his collar

His health began deteriorating rapidly, so they put him down

I never saw much coverage of his death, on the national news

Today, in our nation, not one wild Jaguar is still alive, to be found

There is already some idle talk of re-introducing Jaguars to our nation

But we all know what’s happening to the Wolf, who was brought back

I very sadly hope that the now extinct Jaguars will be able to rest in peace

Re-introduced Wolves are now being killed by the hundreds, in vicious attacks

I cant believe our last jaguar died. Jaguars are so stealthy and beautiful. I hate to hear of their diminishing numbers. I so hope the wolf does not find the same fate. Our nation is one of the last the places they roam. It they become extinct here they will be gone forever. Yet more sad news.

Sadness fills my heart as I read your tribute, but the loss will have far reaching conseuqences that we cannot begin to imagine. As with many things in our life - it's too late.

God bless you. Kathy

This is sad. I never owned this coat. I will pass this on to someone I know who does. Great photo and lesson on wild life in America.

It is sad to see such beautiful creatures being extinguished from our world. Last week here in Nova Scotia a young lady was killed when attacked by a Coyote, as they couldn't come up with a reason why she was attacked or could not ask her or the coyotes they just shot all the coyotes in that area...makes sense right...not

A terrific update on the endangered species. Sad that some things can never stay the same. That sure is a beautiful animal and what a loss that beautiful photos like that will eventually stop being made.

What is really sad, is that so few will raise their voice, or elegant pens, in articles, or poetry, a gift they have, they could well use to make more of us think, act, and feel in a manner that might just help to enlighten, the Dali Lama, in a few words said it well enough, and so did you my friend, thanks for lettings us know.
Bless You! Jasmin Horst P.S. R Arrington is right on the button with his comment.
