“They’re destroying our habitat.”
The Bureau of Land Management
As the buffalo are slaughtered at Yellowstone
And timber wolves are murdered from the skies
Yet another wild horse roundup, is taking place
And, very few Americans, are even asking why
Our government proclaims these animals are ‘in our way’
They destroy ‘our habitat’ that we humans want and need
These days, we humans don’t want to share a single thing
It’s sadly a time of mankind’s utter selfishness and greed
Trophy hunters don’t want wolves to eat elk or caribou
They want to display those trophy heads, on their walls
And surely, buffalo and wild horses don’t merit ‘our grass’
Corporate cattle ranchers proclaim their cows deserve it all
As the head count of our nonhuman neighbors mounts daily
I’m reminded of what we did to Native Americans, long ago
Back then, our government also proclaimed this habitat was ‘ours’
And very soon rounded them up, to abysmal reservations, they did go
America’s indigenous people, like its animals, once numbered millions
And they’d co-existed on America’s vast habitat, for countless centuries
Yet today, we’re doing to our wild animals, what we did to those people
And it utterly saddens me, that we as a nation, so very blindly refuse to see

and where will the developers
built their next "haven Like subdivisions"
then have the audacity, to hawk it
as coexisting with nature.....
