A Los Angeles Animal Services Employee,
Who Refused To Help Two Abandoned Dogs
It gets so much harder, each and every day now
To help all of the many abused animals in distress
Our modern society has lost most of its compassion
And every day, I sadly wonder what will happen next
I know a compassionate woman, who was arrested
For freeing a starving canine, from a backyard chain
Charged with ‘Trespassing’ and with ‘Theft of Property’
No one cared but her, that this dog was dying in great pain
I know someone else, who feeds homeless cats in a parking lot
She does it on her own time, before and after, she goes to work
A cat hating co-worker reported her to the police, and to her boss
She’s been reprimanded and may lose her job, because of this jerk
I know a compassionate old man, who has always loved pigeons
He’s been fined several times, for feeding them, in a public park
He cannot understand, why so many in our world, now hate them
These days, he has to sneak out there, and spread seed, in the dark
Several times, over the course of the last several agonizing months
People have called the police on me for setting up dog and cat traps
Squad cars have been dispatched and I’ve been threatened with arrest
“If we get one more call, we’ll have to haul you in for Illegal Trespass”
And now, I’ve heard an extremely sad story, about a man in Los Angeles
Who has been arrested, for rescuing a starving dog in a foreclosed property
L.A.’s Animal Services Department, refused to help this imprisoned canine
Worried that its former owners might file a lawsuit, putting them in jeopardy
This compassionate man was never even given the chance
To help the other starving dog, left behind in this property
Neighborhood residents can still hear its howls of anguish
Dying of thirst and malnutrition, yet no one will set it free
Instead of electing to prosecute the former property owners
Who so very cruelly left two dogs to die, in agony and pain
Today, we would rather prosecute, a person who still cares
In our now compassionless society, gone so horridly insane
It gets so much harder, each and every day now,
To help all of the many abused animals in distress;
Our modern society has lost most of its compassion,
And every day, I sadly wonder what will happen next.
