Every time, that I think I have seen
The worst, done to ‘man’s best friend’
I get another call, and find a worse case
Our cruelty and abuse, just does not end
My latest charge, is truly breaking my heart
‘Trucker’ has been tormented, for a long time
Emaciated, starving, and still extremely terrified
This type of abuse, should be made a major crime
His morose, tormented eyes, stare back into my own
As if he were trying to ask me, why we do these things
I have no answer, although I'm ashamed of my own race
And tomorrow, I now wonder, what the next call may bring
For the first two days, he would not let me touch him
He would cringe in terror, when I simply raised my hand
Today, he is very cautiously, taking offerings from my palm
This poor creature was abused by my own kind – modern man
And Trucker, my extremely traumatized and untrusting new charge
Is not a very young dog, he’s probably been abused, most of his life
He truly deserves far better, than anyone has been willing to give him
I hope and pray, that he can somehow forgive us, for his life-long strife
And I sadly know that if tormented Trucker can no longer trust,
In finding a loving new home, he won’t have much of a chance;
Yet cruelty, and abuse, and torture, and neglect, and callousness,
Are not characteristics of any animal; they are sadly, traits of man.

I cannot fathom why people hurt innocent animals, it doesn't make sense. And the pictures tears my heart out. God Bless you for the work you do.
