We have named him ‘Shadow’
Yet another outcast in the night
Left behind by his uncaring family
Now filled with loneliness and fright
We followed him for several nights
After dark, he wanders the shadows
Searching for some food and sanctuary
Terrified of anyone that he doesn’t know
Just the other night, we got fairly close to him
This starving outcast, so very close to trusting
Then, his survival instinct took over, and he ran
Such torment to these outcasts, we humans bring
And today, we are now in a race against time
Hoping to catch Shadow before the pound can
Animal Control already made several attempts
If they do corral him, it’s lethal injection by man
We have convinced someone to put food out at night
If we can establish a routine, we can hopefully trap him
And if we are able to, we’ll be saving one more innocent life
