-Be Very Careful Out There This Howloween-

Who Knows

What Evil Lurks

In The Hearts of Men?

Around Two A.M.

Our Pit Bull woke me

Highway could not wait

He really, really, had to pee

As I soon stumbled out our front door

With extremely weary, blood shot eyes

I soon realized the weather had changed

What a very chilling and ghastly surprise

The temperature had now dropped

And a thick, wet mist had rolled in

I couldn’t see a single bloody thing

Thick as pea soup – deadly and grim

As Highway and I cautiously marched on

We heard eerie noises in the thick, black air

My vigilant dog sensed something was amiss

So now we both nervously peered everywhere

Soon, a loud, frightening, ‘tap, tap, tapping’

Seemed to be approaching us, extremely fast

And, terrifying sounds of sharp, heavy claws

On the dark wet pavement, now had us aghast

Highway and I both now stood there frozen

Convinced that evil monsters were closing in

When suddenly, we spotted Pepe The Poodle

Being led by the cane wielding old Mrs. Jenkins

As my very dour old neighbor and her tiny poodle

Now brushed past us in the dark, eerie, misty night

I soon heard her whispering to her tiny black furball

“I knew that these two were big scaredy cats, all right.”

My extremely embarrassed Pit Bull is still pouting about this

And I can’t believe my elderly neighbor had taken us by surprise

But I know that there was something just not right in what we saw

Both old Mrs. Jenkins and Pepe had something sinister in their eyes

Who knows what evil lurks

In the hearts of men,

(And in elderly neighbor ladies

And their tiny black poodles)?

Certainly, Not I…

Blimey, Dad, Pepe and Mrs Jenkins must be pretty darn scary for YOU to be afeared of what lurks beneath their black, curly coats! Thought that line at the end of stanza 4 read:

So now we both nervously pee-ed everywhere

... which wouldn't surprise me one little bit, knowing how you and your pooches do EVERYTHING together! Happy Howloween, Ed! :)) xx

What neighbors the dog man has. I would even suggest not going out in the daytime. Well I guess the fearless Highway is just a puppy waist like you… ;-)

A wonderful almost witchy tale about your neighbor pulling a fast one on you and Highway. I was deeply engrossed in the poem wondering where you were going with your tale. Well done, Ed.
