“If you go into a forest and get very quiet,

You will soon come to understand,

That you are connected with everything.”

A snowy winter morning

I soon head for the woods

Its dazzling white brilliance

Always makes me feel good

I reach my favorite old oak stump

I sit there, admiring the new snow

Eventually, I spot some movement

I realize it’s a lone coyote, on the go

Soon, he stops in his tracks

And, he begins to gaze at me

Now, we both stare at each other

As the snow falls amidst the trees

I begin to wonder where he’s heading

I wonder, what he wonders, about me

Neither of us, is in much of a hurry now

Neither of us, with a feeling we must flee

We now spend some time gazing at each other

As the fresh white snow continues to cascade

Eventually he turns, and he resumes his route

And I am very grateful, we crossed paths today

As I eventually head back home down the trail

I wonder if he is also now doing the same thing

I always enjoy my encounters with other beings

And I never know, what a forest walk may bring

~Mr. Ed~
A snow covered mountain to encounter an inhabitant.
The coyote to a sense of not alone in peace.
Beautiful song and expressive journey.

Great write Ed! Those quiet moments with Gods animals are special times. I can hardly believe the miracle that I have in my home, even though Sammy is a very common tuxedo cat. He is always dressed up in the finest fur tux. I can only hope to be as dashing as this fine looking feline. He is never stuck up and he does not put on the Ritz. He waits patiently for the next treat, next petting session or or next scratch and playtime session. What a life! Amen!

Three times I've encountered coyotes like that. I guess they are a curious lot and always stop to take a look before they go on their way.

A simple, yet moving complexity of emotions that perhaps only those of us acclimated to the woods and the alone-quality such environments allow us to enjoy, can appreciate.
