Music:  At The Hop

I was driving home from the woods

With three of my canines in the back

When suddenly, all hell broke loose

Loud growls, and barks, and quacks

It sounded like a duck was inside my truck

I quickly pulled over to the side of the road

And soon, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud

In Jack’s mouth, a creature resembling a toad

I yelled at Jack to release his terrified prisoner

He complied, and it hopped under cover in back

Jack’s tiny captive was not very hard at all to find

It was ranting with a most unusual sounding ‘Quack’

Jack’s prisoner was a Wood Frog he had grabbed earlier

Mischievous Jack likes to sneak live captives into our home

I’ve often caught him with tiny mice and moles in his mouth

And, I’ve very often had to release them back outdoors to roam

Rat Terrier Jack was not very happy, when I turned my truck around

But his prisoner quacked with joy when I soon returned him to his pond

Don’t believe that old saying that if it sounds like a duck, then it must be

There are many wondrous marvels in nature; and in all of them, I am fond
