Whether out searching for a lost canine

Or on a campout in the great northwood

The nighttime teaches and enlightens me

I find the nights, both heavenly and good

As I perch here, listening to the night breathe

I both see and hear wondrous night creatures

And, as I gaze up into the enormous night sky

The vast universe displays its amazing features

I am filled with awe, at the rich diversity of night's life

From the tiny crickets, I hear singing in the night breeze

To the family of foxes, serenely drinking at the lakeshore

To the endless skies, providing a magnificent show for free

As I pause and peer skyward, taking in all these night wonders

A red-tailed hawk effortlessly glides above me in the night skies

Then, I hear the unmistakable hoot of a wise old barn owl in a tree

Like me, in this truly magical moment of nighttime, so glad to be alive

But to truly experience all of the night’s many heavenly gifts

One has to venture into a forest or into one of our national parks

So many city dwellers never experience the wonders of the night

One must venture into nature’s realm to receive the gifts of the dark

It is truly a shame, that most modern day humans don’t experience this

If everyone did, perhaps humanity would not rush, to destroy everything

Please consider taking a magical journey into a forest or into a national park

Truly magnificent places, to reflect on, what these heavenly nights, can bring

A man is a very small thing,

And truly full of wonders.
