-->Sadly Inspired By The Latest Report,
On Earth’s Declining Monarch Butterflies
“The main culprits in the annihilation of this species,
Like so many other species today, are urban sprawl, deforestation,
Toxic pesticide use, and the wholesale destruction of their food sources.”
Entomologist Lincoln Brower
Music: A Native American Song: ‘All Is Gone’
Flowering Milkweed plants once grew wild
All across this wondrous planet we call Earth
But we have poisoned and mowed them down
Like the Dandelion, never considering their worth
And now besides the huge decline in bird populations
We are also witnessing massive declines in butterflies
The magnificent Monarch, has declined seventy percent
Our ever increasing penchant for mass destruction is why
The Monarch needs Milkweed, and its life-sustaining nectar
But we now wipe out these life-giving plants, like never before
In our construction of subdivisions, factories, and shopping centers
In our spraying of toxic pesticides on crops, and right outside our doors
Modern Mankind is now the most destructive force to ever decimate our planet
Our unsustainable production and our greedy consumption, are the major factors
A Mass Extinction of so many wondrous animals, insects, and plants, is underway
One species alone is annihilating so many others; and we’re doing it more and more

Roundup is used to kill milkweed along fence rows and roadsides. From honeybees to monarchs, we need to stop using herbicides and pesticides for the benefit of all wild creatures, large and small, and learn how to use other measures to control "nuisances." We saved the raptors and we can save honeybees, bats, and the monarch butterfly. All we have to do is act responsibly.
