-->“The question is not ‘Can they reason?’
Nor ‘Can they talk?’ but rather ‘Can they suffer?’”
Jeremy Bentham
My heart always breaks
For all the innocents out there
Especially in the long cold winter
When food and shelter is so scarce
This truly innocent little canine
Was out there, in our blizzard
With freezing temps and snow
When just surviving is so hard
We’ve been trying to rescue her
And bring her in out of the cold
She was really breaking our hearts
Starving, shivering, alone in the snow
She hungrily came sniffing at my trap
Yesterday morning, not long after dawn
But she got frightened, and raced away
When I sadly left, she was now long gone
But luckily, yesterday afternoon she returned
And finally entered my fellow pet rescuer’s trap
She is now safe, and warm, and no longer hungry
And she has now settled in, for a much deserved nap
And you can find another of our recent winter canine rescues
In the A.D. Story Section – ‘The Dog at The Drive-Thru Window’
The question is not ‘Can they reason?’
Nor ‘Can they talk?’ but rather ‘Can they suffer?’
And it so very sadly, never ends.
