Kings Of Greed

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Some thoughts penned after over hearing a group of old men talking in a small island cafe this morning.

Tuesday, March 9, 2004

War and the men that contrive it, desecrate humanities name,

As they, with greed in their eye, and an insatiable desire for power,

Invoke death and destruction, in their insane quest for fame.

They bring forth desolation, as death permeates their callous minds,

For they seek their glory at the price of the innocent who must do the dying.

I hear tell from those that know, there are many vicious circles to hell below,

And me thinks that those of cruel and uncaring mind, that favor wars angry blow,

Will be tops on evils list, to take residence in that fiery well where warmongers go.

For they have no concern if cities burn, or that orphan children cry out in the night,

Some may say that I exaggerate my words in a pacifist attempt to explain my disdain.

However it is not meant to sound as such, but merely to pen my view of humanities pain.

For those who have seen what war can mean, they are the ones that truly understand.

For they have seen the destruction that can be wrought by a wicked kings blind decree,

It is they who have witnessed the stench of bodies that lie in decay; and they have felt fear in a distant land.

For they know far more than the King ever could, for they have seen the field run red,

They have seen the now silent ones that have mouths that no longer scream, they have even slept with the mounting dead.

Yeah, but someday, some will finally see, what it really means to have peace throughout the land.

No more killing, no more dying,

no more children crying,

for there will be that coming day,

when evil is sent away,

and the kings of greed and the kings of fame,

will with fear now in their heart face

what waits for them beyond the grave.

I often get ideas from overheard conversations too. But seldom do I create such vivid masterpieces such as this from them. Great write

Glad to see this as evidence that your writing is no longer on the backburner, but now a flamethrower of poetic license.

Keep the fire going (hey, is this poem about the people on FOX news network?) LOL

blessin's JAW, keep the verbal bites sharp and clean!

This world is the only world where we can work for peace, and our efforts can only be made here. We need to work at this, every one, every day. Acceptance is not an answer. Provocative write!

Yes, peace is the answer, but it can't be found in this world. Greed and pride won't allow it. There's much wisdom in this write.

Yes, Al, peace is the answer and this poem is well thought out and even more well put together, but for one minor issue...Peace is a fleeting feather caught in the wind, no one can ever catch it, thought many have tried, & what to do if we were to catch it? Then it would only become a feather, of no intrinsic value, except to the bird that lost it...(damn thats good, I may just that somehow, LOL!) Hope you are enjoying your vacation, remember you are on vacation, don't let writing and painting get in the way, relax, meditate, breath in that fresh salt air...I will be doing the same in my area tomorrow and Thursday...Peace thru Relaxation, Ed & Rufuz
